Math Lottery!

If you're like me, it can be incredibly painful to get your students engaged in math assignments, especially if it is repeated practice! Well, no more!
I recently found a TikTok video on TeacherTok in which I learned about this awesome way to make a worksheet into a game! The game is called "Math Lottery" and it is literally no extra prep. Simply give the students a worksheet, and post a hundred chart on the board (it's fun if it is a giant size, if you're able to project one or laminate a big poster size for repeated use!)
Then the magic happens - the students work independently or in groups - whatever you like - and complete each question. After completing a question, they get you to check in and if the answer is correct, they can put their initials on one of the squares on the hundred chart.
Then, at the end of class, just Google Random Number Generator, make the range 1-100 and pick a random number! Whoever is on that spot (if there is anyone) gets a prize (or bragging rights)! If there is no one on that particular spot, that's ok, no one gets an extra prize but really, isn't everyone a winner when we're learning?
Here are some tips to make this go smoothly:
Keep the answer key with you so you can easily check an answer
This works best with repeated practice of a single skill, like long division or multi-digit multiplication
If students finish quickly, have them do a couple before calling you over to check - then you can check them all at once and they can add their initials multiple times in one go
Have an extra adult checking if you can!
Set a timer - it got so fun that we almost missed recess!
Have a back up - one of my kiddos was having the worst case of static electricity and everytime he touched the LOFT board he erased everyone's initials - we ended up having to use a plain hundred chart on a piece of paper.
I recomment initialing each correct answer with a unique colour (like purple!), rather than doing a check mark, because it is easier to find on the page!
I ALSO recommend having an "answer sheet" and a "show your work sheet" - that way it is easy to see the answer on their page AND if it is incorrect you can still check where they went wrong!
With great fortitude,
-M💗
